Renewed Life for Greyhounds
Finding forever homes for retired racing greyhounds
Where Our Money Goes
Funds raised by, and donated to, Renewed Life go to paying for food and medical care for any greyhounds in our foster program. These funds also make it possible to help other adoption groups in need. Donations by Renewed Life are made to adoption groups to help offset medical bills they incur. We also make donations for hauls to get retired racers from racetracks and farms to adoption groups all over the country.
Donations
made by Renewed Life:
In August, 2004 Renewed Life for Greyhounds donated money to GALT - Greyhound Adoption League of Texas - to help pay for Spiderman’s orthopedic vet work, with wishes for healing and a forever home. RLfG recently received a phone call and email from Spiderman’s family to thank RLfG for helping him. Spiderman’s plate has been removed and he is doing very well. “Please thank all your board members very much for their generous contribution to Spiderman's care. He is the most gentle, loving hound. He's really a momma's boy! I appreciate and enjoy every day I have with him. ”Here is Spiderman in his forever home! |
Midwest Greyhound Adoption Since Midwest Greyhound Adoption takes in so many broken leg greyhounds from the Dairyland track in Wisconsin, Renewed Life for Greyhounds donated $2,260 to help with the vet work MGA group does for these special needs greyhounds, with wishes for healing and forever homes for all of the greyhounds of MGA!!! A thank you from MGA: "We truly appreciate all your help and can't wait to see you at your spring reunion. Some of my broken legged dogs have left the kennel this weekend but before Friday, we had 8 out of 11 dogs with broken legs and in wraps! Please thank all involved in your fundraising efforts. Dedra's video story can be seen here." |
Rescued Racers Renewed Life for Greyhounds, Inc. donated $1000.00 to Rescued Racers to help with the vet work being done by Rescued Racers for so many special needs greyhounds coming from the tracks and farms. In Memory of Jilli Hawkins In July, Renewed Life for Greyhounds sent $1000, all of the funds donated to RLfG in memory of Jilli Hawkins, to Greyhound Adoption of Florida. This money will assist GAF with their veterinary expenses. Adoption of Florida caught the attention of RLfG because they took into their program the 8 greyhounds in the worst condition, from an abusive “adoption group” situation in Alabama. They are making an important difference for greyhounds, especially these eight! Jilli Hawkins passed away on March 26, 2006 after battling cancer. She made such a difference in the lives of many greyhounds and their humans. Jilli hosted many meet & greets in the Holland area, fostered several greyhounds for Renewed Life, organized many fundraisers to help greyhounds, and hosted a weekly "Newbie Chat" for new greyhound owners on the AOL message board. She had an incredible way of making every hound and human that came her way feel loved and special. We miss her terribly, but will continue to be inspired by her strength, courage, faith and passion for greyhounds! |
Helping the Hounds of Geneva Lakes In April, Renewed Life for Greyhounds sent a $1000.00 donation for veterinarian costs to both Midwest Greyhound Adoption and GPA- Wisconsin as these two groups took in so many of the greyhounds displaced when the Geneva Lakes track in Wisconsin closed. “…thank you so much for the very generous donation of $1000.00 to help cover our vet expenses. This is the first time that our group has been directly involved with a track closing and we could not have accomplished getting so many dogs adopted without the help and support of other greyhound groups and individual contributors. Geneva Lakes Kennel Club is officially closed and the last group of five dogs came into our kennel at the end of March.” - Terry Kozuk, GPA- Wisconsin Adoption Coordinator |

A check was sent to Perky's orthopedic vet, to help with her surgery
costs. Perky came to Compassion for Greyhounds with a broken hock
injury. She is feeling much better, and continuing her recovery
in her new forever home! |
In May, a donation from Renewed Life was made to Greyhound Support in Kansas City to help pay for surgery needed by Farley, a white & fawn 8 month old male pup ...... this very laid-back and sweet boy broke his leg about a month ago, it was surgically repaired, but the repair did not hold. Farley had surgery at MU on May 3, 2005 to repair his leg again. This donation is made in honor of Larry Jeurink, a RLfG volunteer, who served on the Renewed Life board. Larry followed a dream and is now working at Best Friends Animal Society and living in Kanab, Utah with his greyhounds! |
Greyhound Adoption Center, La Mesa, CAFyvie, a 5 year-old ex-racing greyhound, was found along side a rural road in Central California emaciated and unable to stand on her front feet. X-rays revealed that Fyvie has broken bones in both forearms (distal fractures of both ulnas), rendering her wrist joints useless, painful and unable to support her weight... | Midwest Greyhound Adoption Renewed Life has been able to help a female greyhound that was injured in an accident at a Wisconsin track – she ran into the lure. Midwest Greyhound Adoption in Sugar Grove, Illinois took the greyhound into their adoption program. Money was sent directly to the veterinary hospital to pay for the surgery on her broken front leg.
