Dutch |
Dutch was another "return" dog that came to live with me as a foster (I guess you can surmise that I am a "foster failure"....once they are in my house they don’t leave). Dutch was nine years old. I knew almost immediately that he was going to be permanent. Dutch was a gorgeous, large (95 pounds), brown brindle, male. He had the most expressive eyes...he would roll them at you when you tried to reprimand him for something. He loved to cockroach. He was petrified of the cats when he first moved him but ended up sleeping with them later on. He developed some intense pain one Saturday night (just after Cecil was diagnosed). After numerous x-rays, ultrasounds and discussion with the MSU vet school the diagnosis was kidney cancer. He was able to be with us about six more weeks. I was also with him when he was euthanized. I lost him just ten days after Cecil was gone. He had been with me for 18 months. Don't ever think you don't want to take on an older dog. Both of these guys were the most loving animals even though they had not yet found their forever homes. They found it with me and I'll never forget them. |
